Theodore Roosevelt Nature & History Association donates funds to help support North Dakota federal parks and refuge areas. As of October 2011, TRNHA has donated a grand total of $877,548 to be used for various historical, scientific, and educational activities.

What is Funded by TRNHA?

      • The publishing of free trail guides, informational brochures, plant and animal checklist, and junior ranger activity books.
      • Housing assistance for Volunteers and Student Conservation Resource Assistants.
      • Funding of librarian positions and acquiring publications for reference libraries at three park sites.

      • Money for scientific research and oral history projects. TRNHA has recently helped fund an ongoing Mountain Lion study in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

      • Funding for interpretive training, materials, and supplies.

      • Sponsoring special interpretive programs and events such as the Northern Plans Culturefest and birding festivals.

      • Provide Support Staff in the Visitor Center

Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in western North Dakota and is
divided into three separate units; South Unit, North Unit, and the Elkhorn Ranch.

  • 36 mile paved scenic loop drive
  • Roosevelt's Maltese Cross Cabin
  • Two TRNHA bookstores (located in Medora and at Painted Canyon
  • Interpretive programs and museum

  • 14 mile paved scenic drive
  • Interpretive programs and exhibits

Knife River Indian Villages Historic Site

Located a 1/2 mile north of Stanton,ND. Knife River Indian Villages was established in
1974 to preserve and interpret the archaeological and historic remains of Plains Indian culture.

Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge

Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1935 as a
"refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife."
