Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1935 as a "refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife." The Refuge is one of over 500 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System, a network of lands set aside specifically for wildlife. Upper Souris NWR provides approximately 32,000 acres of public land on which you can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. Interpretive exhibits and a book sales outlet at the Office/Visitor Center allow visitors to learn more about the Refuge and its management. The Office/Visitor Center is located southeast of Lake Darling Dam or northwest of Minot and is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30pm.
